The M4 Sherman was the workhorse of the Western Allies, built in staggering numbers — nearly 50,000 — and shipped everywhere from Normandy to the Pacific. Individually it was outgunned by the heaviest German tanks, but its reliability, ease of production and sheer quantity made it a war-winner.
Easy to maintain and endlessly adaptable, the Sherman equipped American, British and Soviet forces alike and became one of the most important armoured vehicles in history.
